JOHNSONVILLE SALE PRIME HEAVY BULLOCKS FIRMER. ' GOOD COMPETITION FOR LAMBS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The cattle yarding was smaller and the sheep yarding larger than usual at the stock sale conducted in Johnsonville yesterday. Only a few pens of heavyweight bullocks were forward, the bulk of the yarding being made up mainly of light and medium-weight cattle. Extra prime heavy bullocks sold readily at prices slightly firmer on those ruling last week.. Heavyweight bullocks shewed no alteration in price, though light sorts were 5s a head easier. No extra prime cows and heifers came forward, the yarding comprising medium-weight cows and a few pens of lightweight and unfinished cattle. All classes met with a good competition at prices showing no alteration on those ruling last week. The runner and vealer pens were of exceptionally good quality, and met with good competition at prices firm on those ruling last week. The wethers forward were of mixed quality. Heavyweight sheep met with good competition, and prices showed no alteration. Light and unfinished wethers were hard to sell. Extra prime heavy ewes met with good competition at prices on a par with those ruling last week. Medium-weight and plain ewes were from 6d to Is a head easier. Prime quality lambs meet with keen competition, and prices were from Is to Is 6d firmer than last week’s. Medium and light lambs showed no alteration in prices.
ADDINGTON SALE FAT SHEEP PRICES INCREASE. CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. At the Addington market today, smaller entries and better quality brought all-round increases in values for good stock. In fat sheep an advance in values of Is 6d to 2s a head'was recorded from the outset for good wethers. Ewes improved by about Is 6d a head. Lighter lines were a shade firmer. One truck of 56 big Romney wethers averaged 46s a head, with the top pen making 50s Id. Prime heavy wethers made from 37s 6d to 42s 6d, with the tops selling at up to 50s Id for special!;/ good sorts. Medium-weight wethers made from 32s 6d to 365. Light sheep realised from 26s upward. Best ewes made 35s 7d, and prime pens from 295. Ordinary lots sold at about 20s to 28s, and poorer sorts from 17s 6d. Only a few pens of store sheep were forward. At the start cattle values were up by 20s a head for the primest sorts, but as the sale progressed the increase dropped to about 10s a head. A good deal of medium beef was sold at 43s to 46s a 1001 b. The best beef made 50s. Heavy stores made £l6 10s to £l7 15s. with the primest sorts realising £22 7s 6d. Good sorts made from £l4 to £l6. and ordinary sorts from £lO 10s. Best heifers sold from £lO 10s to £l2, with the tops going at £l5 12s 6d. Medium grades made from £7 10s, and light sorts were sold at £7. One exceptionally good cow made £lB 2s 6d, and other prime sorts were sold at up to £lO 10s. Good types sold from £6 to £7 10s, and light cows made £5 10s. The porker entry was the smallest of the season, and prices increased by 2s to 3s a head. The average price a pound for porkers was 8d to BJd. Baconers, also, were in small supply, and in some cases the increase was from 5s to 6s a head. The average price a pound was 71d to Bd. MASTERTON SALE LATE RATES MAINTAINED. The Associated Auctioneers report on their weekly sale held yesterday as follows: —Only a small entry of fat and store sheep came forward and was submited to a fair attendance. A total clearance was effected at late rates, quotations:— Fats, sheep: Fat wethers 295, light fat ewes, 13s 3d to 18s; fat hoggets, 20s to 235. , Stores: Store wethers 21s 2d, extra good ewe hoggets, 30s; ewe hoggets 21s. woolly wether hoggets. 15s Id, 15s 3d to 18s 9d; b.f. hoggets, 13s to 16s 4d.
