PURCHASE TAX
OPPOSED BY BRITISH LABOUR COUNCIL. THOUGHT LIKELY TO BE DROPPED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, .1.25 p.m.) LONDON, July 9. The National Council of Labour, after a meeting at the House of Commons attended by Messrs A. Greenwood and I-I. Morrison, made a statement that the council unanimously opposed the purchase tax. which it regarded as an unjustifiable extension of indirect taxation, imposing an unfair burden on the poorer section of the community. The statement has strengthened a belief in the Lobbies that the tax will be dropped.
