“WAR GUILT”

NAZIS BROWBEATING FRANCE COMMENT ON STATEMENT BY M. BONNET. MINGLING OF HYPOCRISY & ABUSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) BERLIN, July 9. The Berlin radio, commenting on France’s war guilt, disclosed that M. Bonnet made a statement in the French Chamber of Deputies on diplomatic events since September 1 last year. M. Bonnet allegedly said he agreed with the Italian proposals to hold a conference on September 1. for settling the German-Polish conflict. The idea was dropped because of British and Polish opposition and the demand that Germany should evacuate Polish territory. The radio added that M. Bonnet must himself be judged guilty. He and M. Daladicr finally decided on the continuation of the war despite their own better knowledge “and thus became the tools of British plutocracy. Their compliance is their crime, which later conversion cannot absolve. Had France listened to the voice of her conscience, the war would never have broken out.” .
