.... — AIR RAIDS DRIVEN OFF BY GUNFIRE ITALIANS REPORT FRENCH NAVAL ACTION. ATTACKS ON BRITISH SHIPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, July 9. A message from La Linea (Spain) says that the anti-aircraft guns at Gibraltar and on the surrounding ships drove off air raiders three times yesterday. A plane, which is believed to have been French, was shot down in the straits. Workmen are busy completing trenches, breastworks, and airraid shelters round the rock. The Rome newspaper “La Tribuna” says that a message from Algiers states it is believed that French naval units sank four convoyed British ships off Casablanca (Morocco), and a group of French submarines sank a British cruiser.
