FIRE BRIGADE ANNUAL MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of members of the Martinborough Fire Brigade was held at the station last night, there being a full attendance of members. There were also present several members of the .Featherston Brigade. Superintendent W. 0. Hewetson presided. The statement of accounts showed a credit balance of £6 19s lOd on the year’s working. The superintendent's report . stated that the brigade had turned out to 11 alarms —mostly chimney and grass fires. Several improvements had been made to the plant; also a new pole and fittings had been erected for the drying of hose. A representative had attended the Fire Brigade’s Conference at Petone. Interest in the brigade had been well maintained. Officers for the year were elected as follow: —Superintendent. W. 0. Hewetson; deputy superintendent, F. P. Duffy; foreman, R. Feist; secretary, T. Boyd; station officer, W. Sharp. Honours were presented to Fireman E. Findlay, 25 years’ gold medal; Fireman G. P. Cotter, 5 years’ silver medal; Superintendent W. O. Hewetson, 2nd gold bar; Fireman R. Wright, 4th silver bar; Station Officer W. Sharp, 3rd silver bar. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Institute was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs Jolly presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr and Mrs C. W. Skill in their recent bereavement. After discussion, it was decided to vote for the postponement of the usual conference, the money thus saved to be devoted to a united war effort by the institutes. Mr D. C. Pryor was the speaker for the afternoon, choosing the subject of children for his talk, which was greatly appreciated. The competition for the bed sock was won by Mrs O'Brien, with Mrs Boyd second. WEDDING CAMPBELL—McLEOD. A quiet wedding of local interest took place yesterday afternoon, when Miss Barbara McLeod, eldest daughter of Mrs and the late Hon. A. D. McLeod. “Mangapari,” Martinborough, was married to William, son of the late Mr and Mrs Simon Campbell, "Birch Hill," Martinborough. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Mann.
