COUNTY AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL BUSINESS BEFORE FINANCE COMMITTEE. INCREASED SALE OF METAL. A meeting of the finance committee of the Masterton County Council was held in the Council Chambers. Mastertoil. this morning. The chairman. Mr H. H. Mawley. presided. There were alst present Councillors R. E. Gordon Lee, J. W. Colquhoun. P. R. Welch, W.’ I. Armstrong. J. Donald and G. Moore and the County Clerk. Mr J. C. D. Mackley. The treasurer reported on the state of accounts at the Bank of New Zealand at June 1. as follows: County fund account, debit £9,141 175.; Bridge fund loan account. credit. £837 16s 7d; Bridge loan account <1938), credit £7,229. £6.000 of which was on fixed deposit; Workers' dwelling loan account. credit £B6 ss. Receipts since last meeting totalled £5,391 18s 4d. The total subsidies outstanding and due by the Main Highways Board and the Public Woi'ks Department at June 30 were £3.591 7s 9d. Accounts for £5,919 6s 5d were recommended for payment. The County Clerk reported that 2.347 cubic yards of sand, pebbles and other grades of metal had been sold at the Crushing Depot at Te Ore Orc during the period that charges were reduced on certain grades. The old price hac' been reverted to as from July 1. The secretary of the New Zealand County Councils’ Industrial Union of Employees advised that the annual meeting would be held at Wellington on July 19, at 2 o’clock. It was decided to appoint a representative.
