An interesting display to show New Zealand’s association with the Royal Navy since 1769 has been prepared at the Canterbury Museum from material already in its possession. The exhibit includes a model of Captain Cook’s Resolution, and photographs of other early vessels and of ships used in surveys, exploration, and defence. There are also two articles from H.M.S. New Zealand—a portion of the jack staff shattered in the Battle of Jutland, and the historic greenstone tiki presented to the ship by C. J. Sloman in 1913. Crests and badges from 11.M.E. Diomede and H.M.S. Dunedin and a photograph of H.M.S. Achilles are items of more recent interest. Associated with the display are Terra Nova relics.
