RIOTOUS ELECTION

CONTEST FOR THE MEXICAN PRESIDENCY FORTY-EIGHT DEATHS & 400 INJURED. BOTH SIDES CLAIM VICTORY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MEXICO CITY, July 8. After a day of rioting, in which there were 48 deaths and 400 persons injured throughout the country, both sides claimed a victory in the elections. General Almazan, however, insisted that his is the clearest cut win. “It is impossible now for anybody to steal it from me,” he said. Police and soldiers, firing rifles and tear-gas bombs, dispersed an Almazanist victory parade. The casualties have not yet been determined, but nine ambulances carted off the victims. Almazanists tried to storm a radio station but were repulsed. An announcer remained at the microphone describing the attack while bullets whistled past his face.
