The position of insurance companies in relation to fires caused by enemyaction was explained by the chairman of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board (Mr J. J. Kingston) at a meeting of the board. Mr Kingston said that not only were insurance companies not responsible for damage f lom fires started by direct hits, but they were not responsible for fires that broke out in adjoining properties. The conditions were the same as those lelating to earthquake risks. As far as the board's financial responsibilties toward the emergency precautions scheme were concerned, it was. the Government’s duty to make provision, and failing that the local bodies should contribute.
