MEN FOR SERVICE

ARMY MOBILISATION IN BRITAIN THREE FURTHER CLASSES THIS MONTH. BRINGING TOTAL TO ABOVE FOUR MILLION. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, July 6. Men of the 1909 class, or “the 30’s,” registered today for military service. Three other classes will register this month, bringing the grand total to above 4,000,000, but in the higher-age groups the schedule of reserve occupations will operate to an increased extent. Five men who were wounded while serving in the Maginot Line early in the war registered with the “30’s.” In spite of their disability they are an-' xious to rejoin their old regiments and have another go at “Jerry.” A total of 310.G88 men registered, of whom 1779 were conscientious objectors —the lowest percentage yet recorded. Men from Newfoundland to man heavy artillery arrived today at a British port. The Minister of Transport, Sir John Reith, made an order empowering regional commissioners to prohibit the use of vehicles on any road in their area. The primary object is to prevent roads that are urgently required for military movements being blocked by non-c-ssential traffic.

A Daventry broadcast states that the calling of the 1909 class brought the total number of men registered to above 3,000,000. Of these it is estimated that 2,000,000 are under arms.
