All doubt about Padishah has been dispelled. He arrived on Saturday afternoon and his owner-trainer, Mr J. Hennah, stated that his horse was a certain starter in the Wellington Steeplechase whatever the state of the going. Also he will be ridden by G. G. Beatson. who was successful on him in the Grand National Steeplechase. Padishah has done a sound preparation and looks a picture of fitness. He was schooled over the country this morning.

Rebellion Unlucky. The favourite. Rebellion, was unlucky in the Winter Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday, as he got hopelessly left and was running fast at the finish to get fourth.

Tigreterre’s Success. The Russell Memorial Steeplechase at the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club's meetcn Saturday was won by the third favourite Tigreterre. Royal Toast made the pace till a mile from home where Nino Martini joined him. Along the back the last time Tigreterre moved up near the Senders and jumped to the front at the sod wall half a mile from home. |He was well clear at the last fence and won easing up by five lengths. Nino Martini and Acron had a great contest for second. Nino Martini getting the verdict by a neck. Royal Toast tired in the last half-mile and weakened back to fourth. Glenvane ran prominently for two miles. Bang Bang and Indiscreet were never in the picture. Brackets for Trentham. Owing to the large fields in one or two races on the opening day compulsory bracketing sees the following horses coupled on the machine:— .. Woburn Hack. —Parchment and Pillory, and St Grace and War Cloud. Vittoria Hurdles. —Waka and Haile Selassie. Whyte Handicap.—Hunting Royal and Philemup, Prival and Ruatiti, and Silver Glow and Wagner. Riders at Trentham. Riding engagements at Trentham are: J. Chaplin, Grand Sport and Aussie Ra; P. Burgess. Old Surrey; A. J. Gilmer, Small Boy and Very Glad; J. Mcßae. Hessketoon; N. R. McKenzie. Pillory; W. J. Broughton. Parchment: F. E. Baker, Survalyon; J. Williamson, Philemup; V. Dye, Erlick; W. F. Ellis, Cherokee; O. Mclnally, Exjellent; M. Ritchie, Jack Tar; W. J. Mudford. St Grace; G. P. Dowrick, Pekoe. As A. E. Ellis has now definitely not been engaged for Padishah he may ride Gay Boa. Te Kuiti Cup Winners. Recent reference in the “Auckland Herald” to horses who have won a race several times has jogged the memory of a reader, who has asked for particulars of the number of Te Kuiti Cups won by Tinopai and Jolie Fillc. The records reveal tjie remarkable fact that in the first nine contests for the Te Kuiti Cup the honours were talofn by three horses only. The winner in 1912 and in 1913 was Jolie Fille, who carried 9.0 and 9.3 respectively, the 'rider on both occasions being J. Conquest. Tinopai won the race on five occasions, the first time in 1914, carrying 6.9. In 1915 she won with 9.5, in 1916 with 8.10. in’ 1918 with 8.2, and in 1920 with 9.1. She also ran unplaced in all her successes she was ridden by'H. Robinson. In the years 1917 and 1919. when Tinopai did not compete. the winner was Munster, ridden on the first occasion by B. Deeley and on the second by C. Reed. Something of an Outlaw. Nuffield, like a number of the horses sired by Heroic, is something of an outlaw in his own particular way, his hobby being the demolition of his boxes. The Melbourne trainer J. Holt is hopeful that his brilliant charge, now a four-year-old, will stand a preparation for spring racing, as so far he has not been over-fractious and is getting through daily tasks without any trouble. Nuffield raced well as a two-year-old, his five successes including the V.R.C. and A.J.C. Sires' Produce Stakes, while his earnings for the season amounted to £7460. In the next season ho won the A.J.C. and V.R.C. Derbies and the Caulfield Guineas, but failed in the Melbourne Cup and C. F. Orr Stakes. His earnings were £9400. making a grand lotal of £16.860. Last spring Nuffield did a light season at the stud and was sent to Sydney in the autumn, but he. proved so fractious that ideas of racing him had to be abandoned. Acscording to the latest, reports. Nuffield has developed nicely since he last raced, and if he stands up to the work he will add to the strength of the weight-for-aga division. RACING FIXTURES July 9. 11. 13—Wellington.
