COUNTY AFFAIRS
EKETAHUNA MEETING EVACUATED CHILDREN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council was held yesterday, there being present: Councillors J. B. Carruthers (chair), C. T. Richardson, G. Houlbrooke, P. Davies, F. Goggin, C. Davie, G. Bailey, R. G. Kebbell. H. N. Kebbell, J. J. Dougherty and A. J. Perry. Mr P. H. Donovan was granted permission to erect a cream stand on the roadside at Alfredton, subject to the site of the stand being to the satisfaction of the engineer. The Ministry of Housing wrote in regard io rural housing and employment of labour. The New Zealand Counties Association also wrote concerning the matter, asking the Council to give favourable consideration to the matter. The Council was in full accord with the scheme. The Local Government Loans Board wrote sanctioning the loan of £5.000 for rural housing. The chairman gave a comprehensive report on a meeting of local body representatives this week to discuss the allocation of evacuated British children to those persons who had made applications to care for the same. The children allocated to residents of the County would be under the jurisdiction of the Council who could ask the various church ministers to co-operate in the matter of supervision. Those persons who desired to take a child or children can obtain application forms from the County Office.
