Now that the Government is asking foi more production this plough, which lias been purchased by Mr H. J. Quinn, oi Carrington, should be a great help in this direction. Winner of Cake, The cake raffled by the MatarawaDalefield Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was won by Mr H. W Meyrick, of Matarawa. Presentation to Soldier. A pleasant function took place at the Borough Council Chambers, Carterton, this morning when Sapper J. Johnston, of the Railway Company, who is on leave from Ngaruawahia Camp, was presented with a wristlet watch from the Carterton Citizens’ Committee. The Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner) who made the presentation, referred to the excellent personal qualities of Sapper Johnston. He had been a railway servant at the Carterton station for some considerable time. He had been chief clerk and during the former stationmaster's absence on sick leave extending over a long period, had acted as relieving stationmaster in a very efficient manner. He had made many friends during his residence in Carterton. “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” was sung. Sapper Johnston suitably replied.
