APPEAL TO HOUSEHOLDERS
MOVE BY GROCERS TO SAVE PETROL.
In view of the request made by the authorities for the conservation of petrol, the Wairarapa Grocers’ Association has decided to appeal to housewives in the district to give it every assistance so that it may meet the situation with the least inconvenience to all concerned. Petrol consumption to be reduced 20 per cent and it is;’ felt that if the co-operation of householders is forthcoming this reduction can be achieved with little or no interference with customers' shopping arrangements. Consequently, goods in bag lots such as sugar, flour, poultry food, etc., will be delivered in future once a week only by each grocer. To ensure the delivery of immediate necessities, orders must be given before 3 p.m. for delivery that day. Apart from the need of conserving petrol, it is becoming increasingly difficult to deliver goods promptly on account of depletion of staffs owing to men taking up war duties. In this connection, householders could greatly assist grocers by eliminating the need for delivery of small goods. ACTION BY BUTCHERS. REQUEST TO CUSTOMERS. The Wairarapa Butchers’ Association similarly requests customers to place their orders on the day previous to delivery, so that effective means may be taken to eliminate overlapping in delivery services. In making this request, it seeks the co-operation of all customers to enable it to meet the situation. Butchers will be pleased to discuss with customers ways and means of achieving the purpose in view, with the least possible inconvenience.
