WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-MANAIA. MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held in the Epiphany Hall, Kuripuni, yesterday afternoon. The president, Mrs S. J. Munn, presided over a large attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. Allan, G. L. Scrivener, and K. McGovern. The meeting was opened with the song, “Comrades and Friends,” the Ode to Friendship and the recitation of the Aspiration and Prayer for Peace. As a result of the knitting competition the gift of 14 balaclavas and 3 pairs of mittens was made to the Masterton Women’s Auxiliary of the Navy League. On behalf of the members, Mrs Munn presented Miss B. Allen with a piece of silver plate, in honour of her approaching marriage, and wished her happiness in her future life. The afternoon was spent in sewing for refugee children. Mrs Reynold's i ecitation of a pioneer experience was greatly appreciated. Mrs Hiddelton was the winner of the potato competition, the seed for which was donated by Mrs McAlister It was decided that the Institute should support the local Red Cross Paddy’s Market. The competitions resulted as follows: —Collection of flowers: Mrs Catherall Senr., 1; Mrs Munn, 2. Knitting: Mrs Reynolds, 1; Mrs Carmen, 2. The meeting in August will be in the nature of a birthday celebration and will be held in the Epiphany Hall. The singing of the National Anthem brought tiie meeting to a close.
