RED CROSS DANCE

AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. GATHERING AT COOPER'S BARN LAST NIGHT. The dance held in Cooper's Barn, Opaki, last night in aid of local Red Cross funds was an outstanding success. A large number of dancers thronged the floor, which now has a surface to match any' dance floor in the district, and spent a very pleasant time. Mr C. S. McQuade. Superintendent of the Cadet Division of the St John Ambulance, was a capable M.C. and under his direction proceedings were kept going with a swing to music played by Jack Barnes’s Rhythm Boys. Mr Greathead played several extras. At an interval between the dances Mr E. Te Hupi delighted his listeners with two popular songs, and as an encore sang the Maori Battalion’s regimental song. The Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Miss K. Chamberlain and Mr W. Haste, and a Monte Carlo foxtrot competition was won by Miss Nancy Cooper and Mr J. McGrath. A feature of the dance was the excellent supper, which was served by energetic helpers. As a result of the effort the local Red Cross funds will benefit substantially.
