WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION MEETING Or MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Men’s Hockey Association was held at Carterton last night. Members present were Messrs G. Hayne (chairman), J. Fisher, R. J. Martin. M. Worsfold and the secretary. An apology for absence through sickness was received from Mr C. N. Cole. It was decided that the insurance on the association’s cups and shields be increased from £l4 to £25, owing to additional trophies now in possession of the association since the original policy was taken out. An application to be graded from senior to junior was received from the Greytown Club in respect to Messrs Strange and McKenna. The application was refused. The Old Boys’ Club applied to have four of last year’s junior players regraded to third grade. This was granted. A proposed visit to Napier on July 6 or July 13 was abandoned owing to the petrol restrictions, and the difficulty of getting players released, especially those on farm work where production is essential at the present time. The Wellington College Junior Club wrote requesting a game in the Wairarapa. As this is a fairly strong junior eleven it was decided to arrange a match between them and a Wairarapa junior team. Letters of thanks are to be sent to Mr C. N. Cole for donation of a ball and to Mr M. Knutson for donation of £l. It was decided that a six-a-side tournament be held on July 27 for senior men and senior ladies’ teams, the Ladies’ Association to be asked to co-operate. Owing to there being only four senior men's teams in the district, Wellington clubs are to be invited to send teams, if available, to the tournament. A similar tournament is to be arranged for a later date for junior and third grade men and junior ladies. The reason for making two tournament dates is on account of only Saturday afternoons being suitable. The time of commencement of the games will depend on the number of entries received.

The expenses of the abandoned King’s Birthday tournament amounted to £3. It was suggested that the men's and ladies’ associations and the grounds committee pay an equal share. The Ladies’ Association to be approached in the matter.
