PATRIOTIC EFFORT BY TWO SMALL BOYS. (“Times-Age” Special.) In a desire to help patriotic objects, two small boys, Bryan Sadd and Douglas Dale, erected a tent in a paddock adjoining the main street, and with a bran tub, sale of vegetables, etc, raised a sum of over £3 which is to be handed to the Red Cross' Sick and Wounded Fund. School Committee. A meeting of the Martinborough District High School was held on Monday night. There were present Messrs W. J. McNally (in the chair), E. C. Sadd, K. Arthur. R. Lawrence and G. P. Cotter. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Griffiths, George Wright and Beveridge. The chairman stated the school building had again been inspected by an engineer, but no report had been so far received. The headmaster reported that the pupils were now quartered in various halls in the town, but that the attendances had been lower through the vacation of the school buildings. The average roll was 186 primary and 41 secondary. Accounts amounting to £ll 12s lid were passed for payment. Messrs Cotter and Sadd were appointed a visiting committee for July. Rainfall Record. The rainfall in June totalled 56 points, the highest fall being on June 30 when 24 points were recorded. For the six months of the year the total is 8.44 inches, which is below the usual average for the half year.
