What is described as a sinister incident, aimed at preventing the New Zealand horse, Beaulivre, taking his place in the Doomben Newmarket next Saturday was reported yesterday, when during early track work a local horse, Yeppoon, collided with a strand of fencing wire stretched across the track overnight by some evildoer, whom the police are trying to trace. Yeppoon was nearly thrown down. A prominent bettor expressed Ihe opinion that the plot was instigated by starting price bookmakers, who have heavy commitments on Beaulivre, who had not left his stall when the incident was reported. A special police guard is now stationed at Beaulivre’s stall.
