AIR MAIL
CORRESPONDENCE FOR BRITAIN. In view of the quantity of correspondence for the United Kingdom that continues to be posted at the rate of Is 6d a half-ounce, it is apparent that many people in New Zealand have overlooked the suspension of the United Kingdom—Egypt section of th< Empire air mail service caused by the entry of Italy into the war. In these circumstances, there is now no air route at the rate mentioned available to New‘ Zealand senders: the most practicable alternatives to sea transport for the full distance being as under: —(a) New Zealand —Honolulu by sea. Honolulu —New York by air. New York—United Kingdom by sea. Is 9d a half-ounce; (b) New Zealand —Honolulu by sea. Honolulu—Lisbon by air Lisbon —United Kingdom by sea, 4s c half-ounce. Further alternatives will, of course become available when the Pan-Ameri-can Airways’ Trans-Paciflc air service between Auckland and San Franciscr commences in a few weeks’ time. F will then be possible to forward Unitec Kingdom correspondence by air from Auckland as far as New York for 4s r half-ounce, or as far as Lisbon for 6s 3d a half-ounce.
