ENEMY CLAIMS
SEA AND AIR WARFARE. ORION CLASS CRUISER TORPEDOED, (Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 10.45 a.m.) BERLIN, July 1. The High Command states: “A British cruiser of the Orion class was torpedoed. Eighteen British planes were shot down. A U-boat commander reports the sinking of 51,000 tons of shipping. Another U-boat reports the sinking of 23,000 tons, including the Orion class cruiser mentioned above.” The communique adds that bombers again attacked east Scottish harbours and the east and west coasts of England. Hits were observed. Nine British planes were shot down during an attack on Merville aerodrome, which was slightly damaged. One German plane is missing as a result of R.A.F. raids on France yesterday.
The German News Agency stated that Lieutenant Mussert, brother of the Dutch Fascist leader, has been shot. Two Dutch officers have been arrested and three detained. They were present in the room where the shooting allegedly occurred.
