GIFT PARCELS

FULL QUOTA PROVIDED. MAKING & FILLING OF HUSSIFS. The Masterton Women’s Patriotic Committee spent a very busy day yesterday packing for despatch to Wellington, soldiers parcels to the number of 126, more than their full quota based upon population, of the 306 parcel quota allotted to the Wairarapa. Nearly £ll was received in cash and spent in making parcels, the total value of which would probably exceed £6O. It is ..not possible to thank individual doners of cash and parcels as much was given anonymously, but the committee desire to thank all who contributed. In addition to gift parcels nearly 500 hussifs have now been made and filled, and are ready for despatch. These contain over 6000 buttons, 1500 needles, 1500 safety pins, 1000 nails and nearly 5 miles of linen thread, and the committee has been greatly assisted by contributions from the schools, women’s organisations and private donations.

The committee will next week commence work upon the next quota of hussifs. numbering about 500. and appeals for more buttons, safety pins and needles as these arc in short supply- , . Greytown and Featherston advise the despatch of their full ouota of gift patcels and the Akitio Women’s Patriotic Society has sent gift parcels nearly up to quota.
