PATRIOTIC FUNDS
REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATIONS
The Red Cross appeal for patriotic funds has now closed. Before funds are raised for any patriotic purposes whatsoever a permit is the first requisite, to be obtained from the Mayor or the chairman of the local authority and all proceeds must in future be paid to the local secretary of the Provincial Patriotic Fund for transmission to the Wellington Provincial Fund. Funds raised for farewelling service men are exempted. These monies are to be paid to the Town Clerk (Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith) for the Masterton District Patriotic Fund (formerly known as the Mayor’s Fund) and may be used only for this one purpose. Peace time organisations engaged in patriotic work may raise funds by permit for patriotic purposes, but are not permitted to retain such funds raised nor to receive any funds raised for any patriotic purpose by others, even though the funds raised be specified for their own war time purposes. Such organisations may without permit raise and collect funds for their peace time objects, provided that this use is clearly stated at the time of collecting or advertising. The whole object of the Patriotic Purposes Regulations is to have one receiving channel for all patriotic purposes receipts. Necessary, expenses in connection with patriotic work may be defrayed through an Imprest Account set up by the local secretary of the Provincial Patriotic Committee. .‘
