FROM FASHION’S CENTRES
THE LATEST FOR COLD WEATHER. Suzy's new “way-back” bonnets cover nothing but the back of your head. One is of red patent leather, with a rim of white and black velvet ribbon that ties under your chin. For dining is a dress of dark blue w’oel jersey, with a long tunic, silver' buttons, white collar and cuffs piped in pique.
A redingote of dark blue faille is worn over a blue silk surah dress with white coin dots.
Stripes are to the fore again, and are used effectively in a suit of dark grey and white wool, woven in double and single stripes witn two rows of silver buttons down the front,
Schiaparelli trims a mauve pink wool evening jacket with black jet. A silvery fish net necklace has a multitude of tiny fish and little pearl shells caught inside the net.
A jewellery set comprised a fat red lobster brooch and two lobster-claw ear rings.
Turbans to match your blouse will be the rage this winter, and there is one in white crepe, striped in satin, and another of dark blue crepe printed in white.
Instead of snoods Schiaparelli binds the head with caps of silk to match your blouse. Shocking blue, the sister shade to shocking pink because it has the same quick appeal, is the newest shade to wear with black. Instead of the romantic decollete of peace-time parties is Stiebel's serenely covered-up evening dress of night blue velvet, starred with silver. For war-time dining is Lanvin’s green romaine short dress, buttoned on the bodice, and topped by a matching toque.
An easy-going top coat with a hood snug with beaver replaces pre-war coats of formality and fit.
Hats are gay, but not flighty, as they might have been had there been no war. Suzy has made one in grass green antelope felt, banded with scarlet.
Newer than a suit is a dress with a jacket like a cherry wool dress with a jacket of the same material trimmed with pockets of leopard skin. Brown and gold checks face the lapels and cuffs of a double-breasted biege tweed coat which is also lined with the checks.
Paris has soon tired of short-skirted evening frocks, and once again skirts are long, hiding the toes. There is a passion for pockets, and Patou pockets even a black crepe dinner suit with corded half-moon pannier pockets. Bright as a brazier is Balenciaga’s red broadcloth evening coat, buttoned down the front to a corset waist, and spreading to a voluminous skirt.
