ALFREDTON

CARD PARTY PATRIOTIC FUND EFFORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly card party for the patriotic funds was particularly well attended. Bridge and euchre competitions took place in the well-heated lounge. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs Hall and Mrs R.Low (equal) 1; Mrs Low winning the cut. Men: Mr R. Low and Mr H. Percy equal 1, Mr Low being successful in the draw. Mrs Foreman had very kindly donated tickets for the talkies as prizes each fortnight. A sucking pig donated by Mr G. Clarkson was won by Mr H. N. Kebbell who donated it again for re-sale, Mr Kebbell . himself again buying it. A hundredweight of potatoes donated by Mr H. Burch and won by Miss Roberts, were resold twice. Competitions altogether realised £4 8s 6d. Dancing and community singing provided entertainment in the hall, a large number of young people taking part. The grand sum of £l4 9s lid was realised. Personal. Mr and Mrs R. W. Kebbell have returned from a holiday spent in the north. Michael, the young son of Mr Doug. Smith, will enter the Pahiatua Hospital today for treatment. \ Mr Howard, Saunders Road, has been an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital. Mr D. Neil has had the misfortune to crush a fingertip while at work at the sawmill. Mrs J. Harkey has returned from a week's holiday spent with her brother, Mr M. Manihera, at Hastwells.
