OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
LATE SAMUEL REVANS (To the Editor). Sir, 1 have had submitted to me a letter from the well-known “N.8.J.,” published in your columns, referring to the late Rev Samuel Revans. This gentleman was buried in the Greytown Cemetery in 1873. His wife Caroline and a daughter were buried in the same plot. It is regrettable that the \ tombstone, with the names thereon. has disappeared. It was of totara. and was blown down some years ago, and rotted, but Mr W. L. Higgison, the Sexton, who has filled the position for some years, recollects seeing it and reading the names thereon, and would be pleased to show anyone interested the site. It so happens that Captain William Mein Smith’s grave is adjacent to the above section, and as he was one of the pioneers, I am glad to be able to put it on record. His tombstone is of iron and is still standing. Trusting this will be of import to those interested —Yours, etc., ?4ARK MAXTON, Vice-President. Wellington Early Settlers’ Association. Greytown. June 29.
