WEDDING

BOWMAN—GRAY. A wedding took place on Saturday evening at St Luke’s Anglican Church. Greytown, when Sylvia Emma, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. L. Gray, Greytown. was married to John Edward Bowman, son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Bowman, Wellington. The Rev Canon Sykes officiated and Miss Mary Sykes, a friend of the bride, presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a parchment satin gown, fashioned on graceful lines, with sleeves puffed at the shoulders and fitting at the wrist. The full skirt fell in rich folds to form a long oval train and her parchment tulle veil was held in place with cream camelias, with the veil falling over the face. She carried a sheaf of cream heath, camelias, roses and maiden-hair fern. The bride was attended by her sisters Caroline (chief) and Gladys. They wore frocks of pale , green georgette over satin, with rucked bodices and sleeves, finished with tiny cyclamen velvet bows on the front of the bodice and tiny buttons down the back of the bodice. The full skirts were finished with bustle corsages. They wore veils held in place with a wreath of cyclamen flowers. They carried bouquets of cyclamen shaded anemones, fuchsias, heath and maiden-hair fern. Little Betty Gray attended as flower girl. She was frocked in pale green georgette over satin, the same shade as the bridesmaids. She also wore a Juliet cap with a wreath of cyclamen flowers, and carried a posy of fuchsias, violets and maiden-hair fern. Mr James Bowman, brother of the bridegroom, was best man and Mr Jock Howard (Wellington) as groomsman. The ushers were Mr T. Gray (brother of the bride), Mr W. Bowman (brother of the bridegroom) and. Mr F. Walsh (Wellington). On leaving the church the bride was presented with a white horseshoe tied with green ribbon by her small sister Nola. A reception was afterwards held at the Odd Fellows’ Hall, where the usual toasts were honoured. Mrs Gray, the bride’s mother, received the guests wearing a graceful gown of navy, with shoulder spray of violets, fuchsias, heath and maiden-hair fern. Mrs Bowman, the bridegroom’s mother, was attired in a beautiful black gown and wore a shoulder spray of lemon tinted roses and maiden-hair fern. After the reception the guests were entertained by Mr G. Mullaney with several items. Dancing was continued till midnight, when the gathering was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King.” The music was supplied by Drysdale’s Orchestra. The bride travelled in a smart coat and costume of bottle green with hat and bag, gloves and shoes to tone. Mr and Mrs J. E. Bowman’s future home will be in Wellington.
