SHOW AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MASTERTON ASSOCIATION ROYAL CONFERENCE ABANDONED PRIZES FOR SHEEP CLASSES. The monthly general committee meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held in the Farmers' Rooms last night. The president, Mr. R. E. Gordon Lee, was in the chair, there being a large attendance. Prior to the commencement of business a motion of condolence was passed with Messrs. D. B. Carrick. F. B. Pickering, D. Macrae. C. W. Skill and the relatives of the late Mrs. D. Ogilvie in their bereavements. Mr. Lee also referred to the death of Mr. H. B. Stuckey, a well-known breeder and judge, of Dannevirke. The Royal Show Society wrote advising that the annual conference had been abandoned, and stated that remits on hand would be considered at the annual meeting. Mr. M. A. McLeod, of Feilding. a judge at the last show, returned his judge's expenses totalling £3, as a donation. Mr. McLeod was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The secretary. Mr. R. H. Williams, reported that the Southdown Breeders' Society had donated two medals for competition at the 1941 show. A motion passed at the last meeting “that the prizes in the purebred sheep classes be based on a scale of entries" came under discussion and a motion, rescinding the resolution, and moved by Mr. W. F. McLaren, was carried. Mr. Falloon stated that the association Could reduce its general meetings to a minimum to conserve petrol. It was agreed that the next monthly meeting be abandoned, the finance committee to attend to business in the meantime. As the meeting was the last before the annual meeting, Mr. Lee stated that he desired to thank all members for the attention and co-operation during the year. It had been very encouraging to him. and although many had attended only a few meetings they had done good work at the show and in other ways. “Mr. Lee has upheld the prestige ot the association and has carried out a very good job of work,” observed Mr. W. James, in expressing the hope that Mr. Lee would carry on in office for the next term.
