FEATHERSTON

SOLDIERS’ GATHERING RETURN FOR HOSPITALITY RECEIVED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The dance given by Captain J. M. Reidy (camp commandant), officers and n.c.o.’s from the District School of Instruction at Tuaherinikau last nigh, was well attended. The soldiers spared no effort to ensure that their guests spent an enjoyable time. Music was supplied by Udy’s orchestra. During the evening Mr. J. W. Card, chairman of the Patriotic Society, asked Privates Bargh, Viles. McKay and Nix to each accept an envelope containing a cheque, together with the best wishes of the Society. The recipients, after being cheered and accorded musical honours, suitably replied. Captain J. M. Reidy thanked the residents of Featherston for the kindness and hospitality shown to the men who were leaving Tauherenikau. He knew that the same hospitality would be extended to the new draft which would come into camp on Monday. Supper was supervised by orderlies who were attentive to the guests. RETURNED SOLDIERS SMOKE CONCERT. The Featherston Returned Soldiers Association tendered a social on Thursday night to four soldiers from the district. G. McKay, W. Nix, J. Viles and D. Bargh. together with R. Tully of Greytown. The toast list was: "The King”; "Absent Comrades" (proposed by the president. Mr Lawson); "Our Guests” (Mr F. S. Hayes); “Parents of the Guests” (Mr Lawson). Mr J. Buck presided at the piano. Despatch of Mails. The following alterations in the despatch of mails from the Featherston office will operate on and after July 1: Mails for North will close at 9.45 a.m. and 4.50. p.m.; mails for South will close at 9.45 a.m.. 2.20 p.m. and 4.50 p.m.: Saturday, North, and South, 9.45 a.m. and 12.15 p.m. Street receivers will be cleared at 8.45 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily, except Saturdays, 8.45 a.m. and noon.
