Messrs J. Webb and D. K. Coleman, Hawke’s Bay, are guests at the Hotel Midland, Masterton. Mr Hamilton Dickson has been appointed musical adjudicator for the Gisborne Competitions Society’s festivals from August 26 to 31. Mr S. Worthington, who was injured in a railway accident at Carterton recently, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital yesterday for further treatment. Professor E. R. Hudson, Lincoln College, has been appointed a member of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, according to a Gazette announcement. The Rev H. Hogg, who has been in charge of the Presbyterian Church at Opoho, Dunedin, for the last four years, has accepted a call to the charge at Whakatane. Mr C. W. McMillan, a former member of the literary staff of “The Dominion” who is now in camp with the third echelon at Trentham, was met last night by his former associates when a presentation was made to him on their behalf by the News Editor, Mr J. W. Matthews. Mr McMillan was 13 years on the staff of “The Dominion,” including four years at Masterton, as branch manager. The death occurred in Masterton on Thursday of Mrs Elizabeth Elliot. Born in Green Island, near Dunedin, the late Mrs Elliot was the daughter of the kite Mr and Mrs Samuel Pringle, a well known Otago resident During the past few years she had resided in Masterton. where she was held in high esteem by her many friends. She leaves a husband, two daughters (Mesdames A. Millar. Masterton, and R. McKenzie, Petone) and one son, Mr B. Elliot (Masterton).
