Mr R. Syme, Hawera, has been appointed chief agricultural instructor for the Taranaki Education Board. Professor E. R. Hudson has been appointed a member of the Council for Scientific Research. His appointment was gazetted last night. Mr W. J. Thompson was unanimously elected a life member of the Wellington Bowling Club at the annual meeting. His services to the club in various capacities have extended over 40 years. Mr Justice William F. Webb, was yesterday appointed Chief Justice of Queensland in succession to the late Mr Justice Macrossan, who died recently shortly after his appointment, a Brisbane cablegram reports. The following casualty in the Royal Air Force was announced yesterday: Pilot Officer Henry Macale Murray, previously reported missing, now reported prisoner of war. His sister is Mrs I. F. Buckeridge, Wellington. A member of the timber, joinery and sawmilling staff of Messrs C. E. Daniell Ltd., Mr J. McAliece, who has been called tip for service with the Forestry Division was farewelled by the staff yesterday. A presentation was made. In the list of names published yesterday of men appearing before the Medical Board in Masterton for examination for acceptance for military service overseas, the name of E. J. Hosier should have appeared as E. J. Esler. The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Elizabeth Elliot, wife of Mr Edward Elliot of 50 Villa Street, Masterton. The late Mrs Elliot had not enjoyed the best of health for some time past. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the late residence, following a service to be held at 3.30 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. Mr H. B. Oakc-y (Christchurch) was elected secretary, Messrs L. B. Evans (president), W. Efford (treasurer), A. Dickson, J. E. Gagliardi and Oakey were yesterday appointed by the Dominion Bowling Association’s conference to comprise the Dominion executive, and. with co-opted members of the Christchurch centre, they will also be the tournament committee. Mr F. Castle was elected chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board for the next two years at a meeting of the board last night. Two nominations were received for the position, those of Mr J. Glover, the retiring chairman, and Mr Castle. Ten votes were cast for Mr Castle and eight for Mr Glover. The honorarium was fixed at the same as previously. £250 a year.
