The Domei News Agency’s Canton correspondent says the South China command announced that Japanese troops reached the outskirts of Lungchow. 18 miles from the Indo-China border, after crushing all opposition. It said the objective was “to seal the Indo-China frontier.’’ indicating that an invasion was not planned immediately. The vernacular Press generally states that the Government will formally declare soon an East Asia autonomy which will not allow any Power to interfere in East Asia, including French Indo-China and the East Indies. The “Yomiuri Shimbun” characterised the reported new diplomacy as the "East Asia Monroe doctrine.” HONG KONG ENCIRCLED REPORTED JAPANESE BLOCKADE. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) HONG KONG. June 26. The Chinese report that Japanese forces have occupied Mirs Bay, thus encircling Hong Kong. The Associated Press of Americas Hong Kong correspondent says “The China Mail” reported that Japanese warships have arrived off Haiphong and have established a blockading screen, presumably in order to search the ships using the port. ON HONG KONG BORDER. BRITISH PRECAUTIONARY ACTION (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON. June 26. The Associated Press of America Hong Kong correspondent says the British have dynamited the bridges spanning the Shumchun, “purely as a precautionary measure for defensive purposes.”
