PATRIOTIC SOCIETY WOMEN’S MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Akitio Women's Patriotic Society, Mrs Mayman presiding. It was agreed to support Lady Galway's appeal for clothing for Belgian refugees, and members promised to bring suitable articles to be packed at the next meeting. Members were thanked for their co-operation with the shop day appeal for the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund, which resulted in a profit of over £7B. A special vote of thanks was accorded Mesdames R. Meech and Scott, for organising a series of euchre parties, which have already realised £l4 for patriotic purposes. A further supply of 31bs wool was received from the Masterton Patriotic Council, to be made into pullovers and scarves, and to be completed and handed to the secretary at the end of a fortnight. The greater part of the afternoon was devoted to Red Cross work, and the following articles were finished: Twenty ditty bags. 42 water bag covers. 20 many-tail bandages, two balaclavas, one scarf, 17 miscellaneous bandages, 27 eye bandages, and 20 face cloths. Mesdames Sorensen, Moynihan and Ryan acted as hostesses. Patriotic Lard Party. Recently the Rakanui Women's Institute organised a bridge and euchre party for patriotic funds. This function, held at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Pickett, Kohiku, was very well patronised. The bridge winners were Mrs Ray Scott and Rev Owen, and Mrs Pickett and Mr A.. Woodhouse annexed the euchre prizes. A competition for a ham was won by Mrs Russell Bunn.; There was a profit of over £5. Golf Competition. The first round of the second medal competition was played in unfavourable weather, the best card recorded being that of R. Taylor (70). Hockey Match. The hockey match. Coast v Pongaroa, resulted in a draw, two goals each. P. Berry and D. Kent scored for Pongaroa.
