EKETAHUNA

PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE CARNIVAL TO CLOSE ON JULY 13. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Eketahuna Patriotic Committee was held yesterday when the Mayor presided over a good attendance, including representatives from the Civil Service and Fire Brigade carnival committees. The chairman explained that a suggestion had been made to him that the period of the Baby Carnival should be reduced from six weeks to one month on the grounds that if the carnival ran the full time it would lag badly over the last fortnight. He invited comment from those present on the suggestion. After a full discussion it was decided to reduce the period by one week and the carnival will definitely end on Monday, July 13. Arrangements were finalised in connection with the farewell dance to be tendered to Driver L. Waterreus and Sapper P. Jones on Saturday night. Hard-up Dance. There was a happy crowd at the Hard-up Dance in the Odd Fellows’ Hall last night. Many of those present attended in real hard-up attire and all entered info the spirit of the occasion. As a result of the dance the Fire Brigade candidate will benefit handsomely. The music was supplied by Keith Marenzi’s band and extras played by Mr R. Holford were much appreciated. A hard-up supper of bread and butter and saveloys was heartily enjoyed. The function was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. Bush Basketball. At the Pahiatua Drill Hall on Monday evening the Bush Basketball Association's competition was continued, the results being as follows: —Stars A 35, Hemua 5; United 18, Konini 8 16; Hukanui 16.
