CARTERTON
BOROUGH AFFAIRS MEETING OF COUNCIL. j ("Times-Age” Special.) ( The monthly meeting of the Carter- ' ton Borough Council was held last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner), Councillors E. McKenzie. H. Mortensen. L. M. Clark, C. J. DeLacey, W. A. Hart. R. A. Copeland, O. Wolters and the Town Clerk (Mr P. A. Cole). Apologies for absence were received from Councillors J. Udy and C. E. Stevens. Prior to the ordinary meeting a special meeting was held for the purpose of confirming the estimates for the current year, which - was done on the motion of the Mayor seconded b'y Councillor McKenzie. The building and sanitary inspector (Mr H. A. Trueman) forwarded his annual report which disclosed a very satisfactory state in connection with the health of Carterton borough. Mr G. O’Hara Smith (hon. secretary of the Masterton Emergency Committee) wrote in regard to emergency precautions, and asked for the co-opera-tion of the Carterton Borough Council. It was resolved that the matter be left with the Mayor and Councillor O. Wolters to discuss with the Masterton Committee, with power to act. The question of fire escapes at a boarding house in. the borough was discussed and it was resolved that renewal of license be withheld until satisfactory fire escapes had been installed.
It was decided that the old drinking fountain at the Post Office corner be removed. On the recommendation of the Works Committee it was decided to purchase a lawn mower of special design for use at the cemetery, that the sand be removed from the headworks of the borough water works, and that some small drains be cleaned on Mr Quinn’s property to carry swamp water into nearby creek, and that repairs be made to the pipe-line on Mr Reidy’s property leading from water race to the reservoir. It was resolved to give notice to a property owner on Richmond Road to place his fence back to the road boundary. The reports of the Works Committee, / Gas Committee. Overseer's report and > gas committee’s report were read and < adopted. ; Councillor Hart brought up the question of continuing the western side footpath to Belvedere Road. It was decided that the matter be referred to the Works Committee.
