IMPOSED ON FRANCE BY ITALY INVADERS TO HOLD LINES OF ADVANCE. WITH BROAD ZONES BEYOND. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Dav. 12.4 p.m.) ROME. June 25. The terms of the Italian-French armistice provide that Italian troops will stand on their advanced lines in all theatres of operations. Italy announces that she has gained “full rights" over the port of Jibuti and also over the French section of the Jibuti-Addis Ababa Railway. A demilitarised zone from 30 to 120 kilometres wide is to be established in France. Tunis. Algeria and French Somaliland, including the Somaliland coast.
LEADING DETAILS “RIGHTS” OVER JIBUTI RAILWAY. MEASURES OF CONTROL IN FRANCE. (Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) ROME. June 25. Following is the text of the armistice terms: — “Firstly. France is to cease hostilities in her metropolitan territory, French North Africa Colonics, territories under a French mandate and also in the air and at sea. “Secondly, when the armistice has been endorsed and for duration of the armistice, Italian troops are to stand on their advanced lines in all theatres of operations.
“Thirdly, in the French metropolitan territory, a zone situated between the lines mentioned in the second clause (.above), and a line drawn fifty kilometres, as the crow flies, beyond the Italian lines proper, shall be demilitarised for the duration of the armistice.”
The text then fixes the demilitarisation for the duration of the armistice of a zone in Tunis in accordance with a map attached, of which at present there are no details.
“In Algeria,” it is provided, “and in French African territories south of Algeria bordering on Libya, a zone 200 kilometres wide, adjoining the Libyan frontier, shall be demilitarised for the duration of the armistice.” “For the duration of Italian-British hostilities and of the armistice, the French Somaliland coast shall be demilitarised, Italy to have a full and constant right to use Jibuti, with all its equipment and also the French section of the Jibuti-Addis Ababa Railway, for all kinds of transport. “Fourthly, the demilitarised zones shall be evacuated by the French within ten days of the cessation of hostilities, except for personnel necessary for the supervision and maintenance of fortifications, barracks and buildings and also troops required to maintain order in the interior, as later determinable by the Italian Armistice Commission.”
NAZI BOAST “INCOMPARABLE VICTORY.” AFTER CAMPAIGN OF SIX WEEKS. (Received This Day, 12.4 p.m.) BERLIN, June 25. The High Command refers to “the incomparable victory after only six weeks’ campaign in France,” and recounts that in yesterday’s fighting, divisions advancing to the Atlantic coast reached Royal Angouleme. More fortifications on the Rhine front and in Lorraine were taken. Aix-Les-Bains was captured despite stubborn resistance. RELEASED IN BERLIN PARTICULARS OF FRENCH CAPITULATION. (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) NEW YORK. June 25. The terms of the French-German armistice have now been released in Berlin. BUSINESS AS USUAL
THE FRENCH CONSULATE IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The French Consulate in Wellington is carrying on as usual,- according to a statement made today at the office of the Consul. It is understood that the usual diplomatic courtesies are still being extended to the Consul. No statement was made as to whether M. Pouquet is responsible to the Bordeaux Government. NOUMEA RESIDENTS FIGHT AGAINST AXIS TO CONTINUE. (Received This Day. 1.0 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 25. A message from Noumea says the General Council of New Caledonia, at an extraordinary session, unanimously decided to continue the fight against the Axis Powers. Residents of Noumea demonstrated in favour of continuing the fight on the side of Britain.
