WINTER SPORTS CLUB

NEW STYLE OF COMPETITION. [ PROVES VERY POPULAR. On Saturday night the Winter Sports Club held a Yankee tournament which resulted in a win for J. Catherall and lan Coleman (scr.) who defeated M. Wing and E. Hirst (minus 2) in the final. Last night a new style of competition was introduced and proved very popular. Teams picked by E. Sherrock, A. Howes, M. Wing and I. O'Connor competed. Games were up to 40 points, each of the five players in the team having to score 8 points. The winning team was as follows: —M. Wing. J. Haywood, E. Hirst, D. Perrin and Miss O. Quinn. Ladder games were played at the conclusion of the competition. I. Coleman successfully staving off several challenges for top position on the ladder. The first six at present are:—l. Coleman. J. Nicholls. J. Haywood. P. Greenlees, M. Wing and Miss N. Brown. Two new members who will soon be well on their way up the ladder are A. Benfell and D. Perrin. The former, with a little more practice should be able to find a place among the first six on the ladder.
