COURSING

CENTENNIAL CUP MEETING AT HASTINGS. WAIRARAPA DOGS COMPETING. The first day’s coursing at Hastings commenced in fine weather when all the pick of New Zealand greyhounds were seen in competition for the Centennial Cup. Dogs from Masterton have performed very well. Mr W. Spring's Ballaramaine won two rounds of the cup while Julius Caesar has won one round and will contest the second round tomorrow. Messrs James and Taylor's nominations. The Clipper and Dainty Footsteps, each won two rounds while Glengarry. Second Fiddle, Bit o' Blue, Hand Grenade and All Cash will contest the Centennial Purse for dogs beaten in the first round of the cup. The coursing yesterday was of a high standard and augurs well for the concluding two days, tomorrow and Saturday. On Saturday the finals will be run off for the Cup, Purse and Plate. Mi’ E. Price, of Dunedin, a well known authority of coursing, is officiating as judge. Following are the results to date: —
