EKETAHUNA
SCOTCH CONCERT AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) In the Public Hall last night the Scottish Concert, capably organised by Mr M. W. Priest, proved an outstanding success. The attendance was large and the excellent programme provided was greatly enjoyed. A party from Masterton and members of the St Andrew's Pipe Band, assisted the local talent with the programme. Before the commencement of the concert', the Pipe Band paraded in Main Street, and played several selections. The lengthy programme included Highland dances, songs, and recitations, all numbers being enthusiastically encored. The announcers were Messrs M. W. Priest and A. H. Gray and the accompanists were Mrs H. M. Morton and Miss M. E. Smith. The. humorous items were contributed by Mr Harry Hall, who is no stranger to local audiences and who demonstrated that he is still the excellent laugh producer as in days gone by when he was one of the outstanding comedians in the Dominion, and head of the noted Harry Hall Entertainers. During the interval, the Mayor, Mi V/. Simpson, on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, thanked the Masterton visitors for their great help in making, the concert an enjoyable one. It was announced during the evening that an Irish Concert would be held in the hall on Monday night next the proceeds of which will be in aid of the Patriotic Funds. The following wat the programme last night: Pipe Selection. St Andrew’s Pipe Band; songs. Mi W. C. Mann: comic songs. Mr Harry Hall: songs, Miss Rose Robinson; dance. Miss Gracie Mac Kay; recitation, Mrs. Robt Miller; songs, Mr F. Robinson; duets, Miss Jamieson and Mr Mann: pipe selections, St Andrew's Pipe Band eightsome reel, songs, Miss Jamieson ccmic songs. Mr Harry Hall, recitation Mrs Robt Miller, Highland Fling, Ml W. Brown; songs Mr Max Smith.
GOLF CLUB COMPETITION. The local men played the first round of the Southey Cup competition during the weekend and the best cards handed in were: B. Anderson 1 up, M. Fraser 3 down, R. Hornblow 3 down, W. Pryde 3 down, E. Simmers 3 down. D. Fraser 4 down. F. West 4 down, N. Richardson 4 down, W. J. Henderson 4 down, M. Shale 4 down, O. Walton 5 down. Result of medal competition: B. Hen-, derson 82-14-68, H. W. Pryde 86-15-71 R. Hornblow 98-26-72, P. Bouzaid 81-9-72, J. Dickson 76-4-72, O. Walton 94-21-73, M. Fraser 81-7-74. Ladies’ competition: Flag competition, won by Miss Greathead at the 18th. Saturday competition: Miss Angas 41-8-33, Mrs Simpson 48-14-34, Mrs Higginson 52-18-34. The second round of the Southey’ Cup will be played on Saturday. An inter-club match with Hamua will be played at Hamua on Sunday’ afternoon. Personal Items. Mr V. Fairbrother, Te Awamutu, is visiting his daughter, Mrs R. Cooper, Newman. Soldier visitors to Eketahuna at the weekend were Privates P. Monaghan, B. Minnett and Gunner P. Jones. Private Les. Waterreus is spending his leave at Eketahuna. Bush Bobby Calf Pool. A meeting of all members of the Bush Bobby Calf Pool will be held in the Eketahuna Odd Fellows’ Hall on Thursday next for the purpose of electing an executive to operate the Fool.
