WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Women's Institute held its monthly meeting in the Memorial Hall when there was a good attendance, the president (Mrs Spicer) presiding. Mrs Lovegrove gave a much appreciated demonstration on applesquares which was greatly admired. Mrs Marshall demonstrated first aid and bandaging. She was accorded an appreciative vote of thanks. The competition for flic best article made out of old material was won by Mrs Leach, with Mrs Lovegrove second. Several parcels were made up in readiness for transmission overseas for the New Zealand troops. The hostesses for the meeting were Mesdames H. Gaudin and Lovegrove. Euchre Party and Dance. There was an excellent attendance at. the euchre party and dance held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday evening under the auspices of the Women's Institute. The funds were in aid of the Red Cross Appeal. The first prizes in euchre were won by Mrs Waiwera (ladies) and Alex Weatherstone (men). The latter donated his prize to the fund. The competitions were won by Messrs S. Fraser and B. Mundy, the former's prize valued at £1 Is be returned to the fund. The dinner was won by Mrs J. Hutchison. The winners of the Lucky Spot and Monte Cralo waltzes were Mr and Mrs Priest and Miss F. Tilson and G. Cardno, respectively. The M.C. was Mr S. Mclntosh while the music was capably rendered by the Te Tau Melody Makers (Masterton)., The produce stall, which was in charge of Mrs D. J. Mclntosh, was again largely patronised and everything was disposed of. The two dances conducted by the local branch of the Women’s Institute in aid of the Red Cross Society's Appeal, realised approximately £44. Golf. The local club will play a match against Hinakura at Hinakura at an early date. The return match against the Rototawai Club will be played by the Pirinoa Golf Club on the Rototawai links at the weekend. It is probable that a team of ladies will also play. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Harold Smith, who have been visiting the Auckland district, have returned home. Miss Bessie Carter has returned from Napier. Miss J. Scrimegour, who was laid aside with a severe attack of influenza, is on the road to recovery.
Mr and Mrs Hunt, Lower Hutt, were the. guests of Mr and Mrs Marshall. Kaiwaru. over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Johnson, Wanganui, are guests at the Lake Ferry.
