MASTERTON SAVAGE CLUB
GATHERING ON SATURDAY EVENING. After the National Anthem and opening Ode at the gathering of the Masterton Savage Club on Saturday evening. Big Chief V. S. Wilton duly installed Savage W. N. Flemming as Chief of the evening. The orchestra (under Savage C. W. Kerry) delighted with two numbers after which Past Chief Drew contributed two very highly appreciated vocal items. The Glee Club (under Savage D. Couper) rendered a well-received bracket followed by an amusing sketch "The Recruit." by Savages Hemmingsen. Barber. Coleman. Bilderbeck and Henry. Much enjoyed recitations by Savage R. Russell and songs by Savage Maxtcd preceded the initiation of new members, undertaken by Deputy-Chief F. L. Price (Tohunga) and Past-Chief J. A. Kennedy.
Big Chief Wilton reported on the club’s completed and proposed patriotic activities and then the auction for the evening was introduced in a novel manner by Savages W. G. Perry, A. Carstens. Price and G. Bilderbeck. The results in a few minutes were £6 10s. Savage Price introduced the visitors. Messrs Collie, Whiting, M. Fly, E. Smith. Collins. Pte. Howan (Masterton) and J. F. Thompson. A. Wiggins, and A. W. Horton (Greytown) while during Buttery Hatch the presiding chief proposed their health to which Mr J. F. Thompson replied. Following kai. the orchestra again presented a bracket of numbers. The remainder of the second half was taken up by a splendid series of films presented by Mr Wiggins, with Mr Thompson as commentator. Proceedings were closed at a later hour than usual with Ute closing ode and "The King.”
