EKETAHUNA

RUGBY FOOTBALL SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday the Bush Rugby Union held its annual seven-a-side competition at Rugby Park, Pahiatua. In previous years this tournament was held on the King's Birthday, but owing to the holiday being postponed this year the tourney was held on Saturday. The day was beautifully fine and the ground in excellent order. A record crowd was present and some excellent football was witnessed. The school games were played in the morning and the finals in the afternoon. The primary Cowan Cup was won by Pahiatua, and the Midget Cup and match ball by Pahiatua A. The Woodville team won the third grade cup after a great tussle with Pahiatua. Mangatainoka won the senior cup. The trophies were presented by Mr E. L. Harvey, vice-president of the Rugby Union. He apologised for the absence of Mr R. J. Smith, president, who was unable to be present on account of sickness. Mr Harvey congratulated the winners on their success! and also thanked the teams for their support. The following are the results:— Primary School Championship:— Town section: First round: Eketahuna 19, Pahiatua B nil; Pahiatua A 9, Pahiatua C nil; Pahiatua A 3, Eketahuna nil: Pahiatua A won town section. Country section: Ballance 14, Mangatainoka nil; Hamua 3, Mangamaire nil; Kaitawa 6, Nireaha nil; Hamua 3, Konini nil; Ballance 14, Kaitawa nil. Final: Ballance 11, Hamua 3; Ballance won Country Cup. Pahiatua A 11, Ballance 3; Pahiatua won the Cowan Cup. Secondary Schools:—First round: Pahiatua B 3, Eketahuna A nil; Pahiatua A 22, Eketahuna B nil. Final: Pahiatua A 24, Pahiatua B nil. Midgets: Mangatainoka 9. Mangamaire 6; Pahiatua A 6. Hukanui nil; Eketahuna 15, Pahiatua B nil; Pahiatua A 6, Eketahuna 3. Final: Pahiatua A 30, Mangatainoka nil. Third Grade: —First round: Pahiatua 3, Mangatainoka nil; Woodville beat Athletic by a force-down, and extra time was played; Hukanui 5, Nireaha 3; Eketahuna. a bye. Second round: Pahiatua 6, Hukanui nil; Woodville 3, Eketahuna nil. Final: Woodville 6, Pahiatua 3. Senior: Konini 3, Pahiatua nil; Mangatainoka 5. Hukanui nil; Hamua 8, Woodville nil; Nireaha 11, Kohinui nil; Konini 4. Hamua nil; Mangatainoka 10, Nireaha 3. Final: Mangatainoka 6, Konini nil.
