Surprise Win at Otaki WINSOME LU SCORES IN CHIEF EVENT DAUBER SUCCESSFUL AT WAIPA MEETING STEEPLECHASE AT ASHBURTON TO SURCOAT

At the Otaki Racing Club's meeting <m Saturday the chief event, the Ta Timi Kara Handicap, was won by Winsome Lu, who beat Aurora's Star by half a head, the favourite, Colonel Bogey, running unplaced. Nereus brought off a surprise in the Taipua Handicap, winning by a length from Lady Tinkle.
The W. G. Park Steeplechase at the Waipa meeting went to the two-way favourite Dauber, who came in five lengths ahead of Floodlight. Hot Box accounted for the Woodstock Stakes, a rank outsider in Philemup being second.
The favourite Surcoat was successful in winning the Dromore Hack Steeplechase at the Ashburton Racing Club's meeting, being ten lengths ahead of the second horse, Joy Boa. An outsider, Grey Silk, won the Mayfield Handicap.
