FORMATION IN UNITED STATES
An Event Without Precedent APPOINTMENT OF REPUBLICAN MINISTERS RECOMMENDED BY PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT For the first time in its history, a Daventry broadcast reports, the United States is to have a Coalition Government. Two prominent members of the Republican Opposition have been nominated for office, Mr H. L. Stimson (who was Secretary of State from 1929 to 1933) as Secretary for War, and Colonel F. Knox as Secretary for the Navy. If Senate approves the appointments recommended by President Roosevelt, the Republican representatives will automatically join the Cabinet. Mr Stimson has long' been a staunch advocate of united action by the peace-loving’ Powers to halt aggression. Colonel Knox has bitterly opposed President Roosevelt’s domestic policy. He was a former isolationist but lately he has strongly urged effective aid for the Allies.
Speaking at Harvard University,'Mr Cordell Hull, Secretary of State, warned his countrymen against the dangerous folly of isolation.
