A County Court judge has remarked that even cinema managers have their ups and downs. Not so many as cinema organists. The plaster cast model of the largest nugget of gold ever found in one piece on the West Coast is at present being shown in Reefton. Found near Ross in 1909, the piece weighed 990 z 12dwt 12gr and was then valued at £390. With the ruling price of gold the nugget at present would be valued at almost £lOOO in New Zealand money. Named the Hon. Roddy in honour of the Hon Roddy McKenzie, who was then Minister for Mines, the specimen was purchased by the Government and presented to the King. The model was on view at the Centennial Exhibition, in the Westland mineral exhibit prepared by the Reefton School of Mines.
