EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING LAST NIGHT. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council was held last night, there being present the Mayor (Mr W. Simpson), Councillors M. W. Priest, D. D. Ryan. E. M. Simmers, K. Marenzi, and P. S. Page. Leave of absence was granted to Councillor W. Olsen. The Town Clerk (Mr B. Dinnan) reported on the borough’s finances for May as follows: —District Fund Account, dr., £215 15s 3d; Domain Account cr„ £l7 13s 2d; Rate Arrears, £544 13s 3d; Cemetery Arrears, £26 ss; Library Arrears, 17s 6d.'

The Wairarapa branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children's Society forwarded a copy of its annual report and balance sheet for the year, and also requested a grant towards its funds. —Il was decided to make a grant of £2 2s.

The Wairarapa Hospital Board forwarded a copy of its estimates for the year ended March 31, 1941. The borough’s contribution this year will be £159.

The Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club submitted a copy of its annual balance sheet. —Received.

A request from the Fire Brigade for its half yearly grant of £l2 10s was granted. It was decided to place an order for sodium-filled lamps for the lighting of Main Street, and to disconnect the light at the Town Hall. Reporting on the work done during the past, month the Mayor said that numerous roads had been graded and metalled. He stated that the roads in the borough were now in excellent condition, and only minimum maintenance would be required to keep them in their present state. The Town Clerk was instructed to interview the postmaster concerning car parking at the Post Office. Personal Items. Mr V. had the misfortune to severely sprain his ankle while engaged in work on his farm. Mr M. Carter, Feilding, was a visitor to Eketahuna during the weekend.

Miss Audrey Standing, Feilding, was the guest of Mrs S. Daniel for the weekend.
