RED CROSS FUNDS SUCCESSFUL DANCE'.' (“Times-Age” Special.) The dance held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday evening in aid of the Rco Cross funds was largely attended, visitors being present from all parts of the district. The produce stall, which was in charge of Mrs D. J. Mclntosh, was largely patronised and every article was sold. During the evening several raffles were drawn. The prize of £ I Is was won by Mr Graham Cardno. The mystery parcels were won by Messrs Dunmanway and T. Burling. The latter donated his parcel to the committee and realised a good figure, the final purchaser being Mr Bernsen. The dinner was won by Mr E. C. Holmes. This prize was also returned to the committee and when auctioned realised a substantial sum.
The Monte Carlo dance was'won by Mr and Mrs Marshal and the lucky spot waltz by Miss Clark and Mr Warren (Dog River). Thc-M.C. was Mr S. McIntosh and the music was supplied by the Te Tau Melody Makers (Masterton). The committee desires to thank all those who donated goods for the produce stall, and also Mr Jensen for his donation of £2 towards the fund.
GOLF
ROSE BOWL AND CAMPBELL CUP. The fourth round for the Rose Bowl and Campbell Cup was played on Saturday. The weather was line, but the attendance only fair. The competition for the Rose Bowl was again disappointing, only five ladies competing. The best net scores for the men’s match were put in by W. Charteris, M. Hume and M. Herangi. The former looks as if he will bo hard to beat for the trophy. With one round to go his three best cards aggregate 214. In the ladies' competition Mrs Herangi seems assured of winning the trophy. The following are the scores in the Campbell Cup: M. Herangi 83-13-70. W. Charteris 95-24-71, M. Hume 82-10-72, J Carter 97-21-76, S. Thomas 98-21-77 A. Charteris 111-30-81, B. McMaster 87-6-81, J. Riwai 93-12-81, T. Hume 97-14-83.
In the ladies’ match, the scores were: Mrs Herangi 82. Miss Carter 83, Mrs Bragg 88, Mrs Thomas 88. Mrs McKenzie 89.
The following team will represent the local club in a match against Featherston at Featherston’at the weekend: B. McMaster, W. Stewart, M. Hume, M. McLeod, T. Hume. J. Riwai. D. Tikao, S. Chapman. M. Herangi, M. Waiwera. S. Hall, G. Sutherland. S. Thomas. J. Carter, W. and A. Charteris, D. Didsbury.
Patriotic Dance. The bachelors and spinsters are organising a dance and sale of goods to be held early in July. The proceeds will be for the Red Cross fund. A meeting was held recently for the purpose of setting up a district committee. Green and Gold Ball. The Green and Gold Ball, which will be held early in September and the funds of which are to be given for patriotic purposes, has already brought forth one candidate for the queen contest held in conjunction with the ball. The local committee will meet shortly to select a candidate to represent this district. f Personal Items. Among those who have enlisted for active service and passed as medically fit are Messrs Tom Sargent, Ray Henson and N. Duggan. Mr A. Bell, Wellington, visited his son Mr D. L. Bell, over the weekend. Elders Lynn and Allen are visiting the district. Messrs Thompson and Nesbit are guests at the Lake Ferry Hotel. Mr A. Monckton, who has been visiting relatives here, has left for the North Auckland district. Mr Miles Morpeth. Wellington, is staying with Mr D. Didsbury. Mr and Mrs W. O'Neil, Eketahuna. and their children are the guests of Mr and Mrs D. J. Mclntosh. Mr Barr. Opotoki. is staying with his sister. Mrs Marshall. Kai warn.
