GERMANS OVER SEINE

STATEMENT BY MR CHURCHILL Britain Giving France Maximum Possible Support DISPATCH OF LAND AND AIR REINFORCEMENTS NAVY SHELLING ENEMY TROOPS ON FRENCH COAST German forces are reported to have crossed the Seine. The R.A.F. in France has been reinforced by new squadrons and the British Navy is shelling German troops on the French coast. A French communique states that the Germans have crossed the Aisne and have reached a point south of Soissons. German tank detachments are pressing towards Gisors, 35 miles from Paris. British troops are sharing with the French the heavy task of resistance.

The British Prime Minister, Mr Winston Churchill, in a statement, said the maximum possible support was being given by British forces in the great battle in which the French troops were engaged. Fresh British forces had landed in France in the last few days and further reinforcements were being rapidly organised and would shortly be available.
