MASTERTON SAVAGE CLUB

KORERO ON SATURDAY EVENING

Those who attended Saturday’s Korero of the Masterton Savage Club were amply repaid by the excellent programme provided by' members of the St Andrew Society whose chief. Mr H. McKenzie Douglas, was installed as chief of the evening by Big Chief V. S. Wilton.

Following “The King." the opening ode and the installation, the orchestra (under Savage C. W. Kerry) rendered two well-received items followed by two much appreciated songs by Mr G. C. L. Dickel (St Andrew). The chairman's remarks were succeeded by an eightsome reel (St Andrew) which Big Chief Wilton suggested was enough to frighten any fifth column. Savages Carstens and Coleman presented a very' good sketch “Change of Name." Three pipers. W. McK. Douglas* N. Dickel and L. Pither, then gave stirring music on the pipes. A very interesting talk “Clan McGregor and Rob Roy” was a contribution from Chieftain P. C. McLaren (St Andrew) before Deputy F. L. Price introduced the visitors.

Again the patriotic committee had a large supply of material for sale by auction and the sum of £5 10s 6d was raised for patriotic funds. At Buttery Hatch, Big Chief Wilton proposed the toast of the visitors, replied to by' Chief McKenzie Douglas. Past Chief Kennedy gave the toast of the club’s oldest member still active Past Chief Iggulden. who has just become an octogenarian, and who suitably replied. The second half of the programmewas opened by the orchestra with two further numbers, the audience singing a chorus, and much enjoyed songs byMr W. C. Mann (St Andrew). “Winter Sets In” was the tills of an amusingsketch by' Savages Henry and Barber Next the reconstituted Glee Club (under Savage D. Couper) gave items that were much appreciated. A foursome reel and further songs by Mr W. C Mann brought members to the Closing Ode and "The King." _ During the aftermath Savage R. Russell gave an amusing "lesson” on Scotland and Savage Harry Hall heralded his return to health with a group of very entertaining ballads.'
