FEATHERSTON

RED CROSS MEMBERS TO SIT FOR EXAMINATION. (“Times-Age” Special.) Nineteen members of the Red Cross Society will sit for an examination in hygiene and sanitation on Tuesday night.

MEDAL COMPETITION. The third round of the medal competition _held on Saturday afternoon, resulted as follows: —K. Allen, 80, 7, 73; J. Davis, 90, IG, 74; H. Bloxam, 89, 13, 76. The home-and-away match with Martinborough will be played next Saturday, the first eight members playing at Featherston and the second eight at Martinborough. A Good Record. Already five of the seven sons of Mr and Mrs J. H. McCarthy have either left for overseas or are in camp. The other two boys will enlist when they come of age. Personal. Mr J. W. Card and Miss June Card spent the weekend at Levin. Flight-Mechanic H. Edwards (Lower Hutt) and Miss P. Edwards (Wellington), were here for the weekend. Mr and Mrs Staples are spending a ( holiday in Pongaroa. Basketball. The following were the results of the A grade interhouse basketball: —Rata beat Konini, 15/11; Nikau beat Kowhai, 16/7. Vital Statistics. ' The vital statistics for May are:— Births, 10; marriages, 2; deaths, 0. Rainfall Record. There were 20 days with rain in May, the total fall being 7.71 inches, and the maximum 1.86 inches on May 9. Patriotic Society Dance. A very enjoyable dance was tendered in the Anzac Hall on Saturday night by the Patriotic Society for the soldiers in camp. There was a large number of uniformed men present, among them being the camp commandant, Captain J. N. Reidy. Miss Card was the hostess. Mr Chas. Buck was M.C. and the music was supplied by Te Tau’s Orchestra. A capable committee of ladies were in charge of the supper arrangements.
